I bought this for a friend. I own a Sportser 5 and I would recommend spending the extra money to buy it if u are going to be using the radio a lot.
I think Starmate Five alacart is good receiver, other than very limited FM MODULATER so plug in Cassette adaptor recomended, or direct. Some bad as no free change alowed only programming once is free. Then Five $'s to add or delete. Again this is a Sirius Problem which I recomend they stop.
The other reviewer is unfair, and obviously just wanted to get something for almost nothing and expect amazing things. You can store your favorite sports teams so you can be updated with scores, as well as game times.
Meaning this product has nothing to do with any agreements. Not only did the other reviewer put no input on the device itself, but Basically only stated he wanted it cheaper.
This item was released WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY before the XM sirius merger. just for the radio.
A.K.A., something for nothing. The radio is still the best availible, comes with the ability to rewind and pause your current channel, much like Tivo.
Considering the price, and the features it has, this is still, in my opinion, the best radio that is out there. Also The merger has nothing to do with the actual product, very biast opinion.
This is an attempt by XM/Sirius to circumvent their responsibility under the merger agreement. When the government approved the XM/Sirius merger, they did so on the condition that they provide an a la Carte option to subscribers. The company must provide a less expensive radio for the a la carte service to comply with the merger agreement requirements. The Starmate 5 is the only radio that is capable of a la Carte service. However, its price is way high for the features it has. If companies like this would put more thought into satisfying their current and potential customers, they would not have to use deceptive tactics like this. I wish the government would step in and fine them for this latest tactic.
